December 29th, 2007 (CAMP TAJI, IRAQ)

We’ve had a couple more slow days here. SSDD – More PT and more squad training.

Battalion pushed some more intel down to us about our area of operations. We found out that we just really don’t know much about the place. Everything they told us was all speculation or based on the last time coalition forces patrolled there in like 2004 or some shit. There were a lot of, “We think there might be…” and “We know there was…” Perfect, just fucking perfect.

I was told to be at the battalion TOC (tactical operations center) at 9:45 tomorrow morning for a class on some new digital intelligence system. Apparently, we will be able to see what’s going on in everyone’s AOs, and we will be able to post updates about our own for everyone else.

We got some mail today, so that was exciting. I had eight boxes. That seems a little ridiculous. I got an Illini Rose Bowl hat from Theresa’s Aunt Susan, junk food and a movie from mom, and new PSP games from Theresa. Theresa also sent soap, drink mixes, and some cooking spices, from when she was moving out of our house. I’m all set to cook now.

Some of our guys got new furniture today. I threw out all of my wooden stuff and got a new cheap metal wall locker. Several people got new mattresses, but I didn’t. Mine is worn out and filthy, but I guess it doesn’t really matter. You can’t keep things from getting dirty here anyway.

Supposedly, we are going to be able to get internet in our living area sometime in the next few days. That will be amazing, if it actually happens. I’m not counting on it.

Well, I’m off to bed for the night.
